“Voices of Our Past” is an Alumni Players! and Woodlawn Cemetery Community Partnership Event which celebrates both the history of Edwardsville and the living legacy of Woodlawn Cemetery as told through story and song.

COME HEAR THE VOICES!

On Saturday, October 5, 2024, Woodlawn Cemetery will once again partner with the Alumni Players! to present their annual fundraiser, “Voices of Our Past”!

The event will be held from 12:00 to 4:00PM on the grounds of historic Woodlawn Cemetery, located at 1400 St. Louis Street, Edwardsville, Illinois.

The afternoon will feature guided walking tours led by Woodlawn Docents who will share the history of the cemetery and reveal the mysteries and meanings of the images carved into the monuments and memorials within the 44-acre wooded landscape.  Along the way, graveside re-enactors will offer insights into the daily lives and significant accomplishments of some of the many prominent citizens resting at Woodlawn.

To bring the event to life this year, Alumni Players! will re-create a country fair atmosphere circa 1866 in the Woodlawn Cemetery Meadow.  This setting will serve as an historical backdrop to pay tribute to the original Edwardsville Fairgrounds which were located directly across the street, and from 1855 to 1867, hosted county-wide “Agricultural Expositions”.

The meadow will be filled with period craft demonstrations, artisans selling hand-made wares, food vendors, barnyard animals, orators, and musicians, all reminiscent of life in Southern Illinois shortly after the Union victory in the Civil War.  To add to the experience, guests of all ages will be encouraged to compete for prizes in a variety of vintage games of skill.

All proceeds support the ongoing preservation and beautification of our landscape.
